New Door Creative, December 7th – December 29th, 2013

Baltimore: Patrick Henry, the renowned painter of quintessential Eastern Shore life, will be exhibiting a collection of 26 recent oil paintings at New Door Creative in Baltimore’s Station North Arts District.  The exhibition will be on view December 7th through December 29th, 2013, with an opening reception on Saturday, December 7th, 2013, from 3-6pm.  The artist will present a Gallery Talk on Saturday, December 21st, 2013 from 2-4pm.

The exhibition features new works that narrate the life experience of the artist.  His story is one grounded in a sense of identity within a distinct culture, and the natural word.  His airy, near-Impressionistic oil paintings vary in subject matter, and evoke an undeniable sense of calmness and nostalgia. Unlike typical paintings of farms, boats, and beaches that shape the culture of Maryland’s coast, Patrick’s work evokes a sense of warm familiarity. To view a painting by Patrick Henry is to recognize a bond between the artist, the land he loves, and his sense of place. The renowned painter of quintessential Eastern Shore life describes his subject matter as “…an impression left on my personal world.”

The title of the exhibition, “My Piece of Earth” intimately defines the artist’s creative stance as he continues to explore the tone and meaning of place.  The visual range of the show is divergent, and yet consistent; portraying moments of reflection, silence, and memory.

Patrick has received numerous honors and awards during his extensive career.  In 2005, The Daily Times newspaper (Salisbury, Maryland) recognized Patrick as Delmarva’s Best Local Artist. In Baltimore, The Reginald F. Lewis Museum in presented the exhibition “Patrick L. Henry: Into the Light” in 2007.  Later that year, the Museum purchased Patrick’s painting “Berlin Milling Company” for their permanent collection. Recognition continued in 2011, as Maryland Life Magazine’s Readers Poll selected Patrick as the Lower Eastern Shore Finest Artist.
